If you guys have been to cave explorations, Gua Senyum in mid Pahang (Jengka) area is definitley in one of your agendas. Gua Senyum (Smiling Cave ) has been a favorite destination amongst those who love outdoor adventures, especially caves exploration and limestone mountain climbing. The Gua Senyum is actually is an area of series of caves, numbering more than a dozen of them. Some may penetrate deep into the haert of the limestone hills. It has a small resort, with chalets and campsite with basic facilities which is run by the state forest department.

Adjacent to it is Gua Jebak Puyuh, a walking distance , is also a hill with caves, but is slightly separated by the bigger sister of Gunung Senyum. It has the same attractions as Gunung Senyum but to a lesser degree.

Soon Jebak Puyuh will be erased from the map. Surprise?, dont be. Ill luck,  it was never gazetted as state park and a giant company in Malaysia seems to have interest on it,. mining for cement production.

Sad?.. yes, .. what can we do ? Write petisyens,. e mail to TDC, forest department and the whole list.. but we are still blurr of how far the process has gone to make it become a mining ground. Is it myth or fact?

Such a waste, a national heritage to become a mining gound, if its a fact.

Ps. dont hit the authority just yet, we need more information from those who knows better

Lets just make noise and create an issue regardless of whether the mining operation plan exist or not. That way it gets chop off before it even started. In the wake of recent landslides here and there it will be a sensitive issue. Or organise a big ride to Gunung Senyum and call it Save the Mountain Ride or whatever  Cheesy

mmm, an organised ride to gunung senyum should be pleasant. Give the tittle as you mentioned, Save the Mountain Ride, or Save Jebak Puyuh Ride will definitely add impact. Make a banner and have it displayed at our campsite. It only cost rm90 a piece of a respectable size.

Moto 1, if you are serious of this ride, lets make it happen. Planned out,.. I have their contact number for reservations/boookings, and you become the chief da mission.

I m serious.

Sad to say that I would not be able make the trip due to several things going on in the work place. Unless if the guys still want to have this ride next month then someone else have to take over. If not we will have it in April to fill the vacant.  Sad

AA ... is this the one that you access via Temerloh?  Been telling myself that I would like to do that riverside ride along the Pahang river since some time ago.

Too bad if this development does come true ... another one bites the dust.  We never seem to learn that our continued unsustainable developments in ecologically sensitive areas will only serve to harm our environment for our future generations.  Look at our water issues for example! At the rate we tear up our pristine forests and where even gazetted forest reserves can be "un-gazetted" with impunity (read Sg Buloh for example) for the sake of fulfilling the greed of a few, the long term impact is that we are loosing our catchment areas and rainfall patterns in the country have changed.

Also look at the Ukay heights tragedy re-visited (ala Highlands tower tragedy).  Will we ever learn? Guess not.  I could go on and on but that would only be me ranting.

So yes ... do organize some "Save the Mountain Ride" or better yet call them the "See the Mountain Before Its Gone Ride" to lend some urgency.  Our environment is our heritage be it good or bad.  Cheers!

Guys, I couldn't agree more. We "everyday" people has to make a stand. Our children is being robbed of the blessings that we have in this country. I support the ride to creat more awareness. Maybe we can link up with other bike clubs to get more participation to get the message across.  Smiley
